Week 2: No More Frustration!

Discussion Questions:

Getting Started:

When it comes to life’s frustrations, what’s at the top of your list?

Read Romans 7:15-19. Paul speaks to life’s greatest frustration here. Can you relate? What do we learn from these verses?

Key Verse

“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:5‬ ‭(NIV)

*Have someone read Romans 8:4-7 aloud.

Digging In:

Mindset matters! What one thing have you found to be most effective in “setting your mind” on what the Spirit desires?

How does knowing you have a new nature in Christ impact your mindset when it comes to choosing not to sin?

Read Romans 8:8-13

What is your reaction to verse 8? What does it mean to be “controlled by the sinful nature”?

In Christ we have a new power to make choices that are pleasing to God. What is that power and how do we activate it?

Read Romans 8:14-17

What does it mean to you personally to call God Father? How about to call God Abba/daddy?

Reflection & Prayer

“Let go and let God” is a phrase we often see. Beyond the bumper sticker, it reminds us that our need to control creates more frustration than anything else in life.

Acknowledge that need, confess it to one another in prayer, lay it at the foot of the cross and surrender to the Spirit’s control.
