Invitation to be Interrupted

Jonah does not end like you'd expect it. Jonah see's God's invitation to the Assyrians as an interruption to his own plan. While Jonah literally ran away in the first chapter, we see by his anger towards God that he is continuing to run away internally. A lot like the older brother of the lost son in Luke 15. At the end of the day, God's grace and mercy does not revolve around our preference. It is perfect and for everyone.
